"Lack of Services for Borderline Personality Disorder"

About: North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

I want to say that there are a lot of myths and misconceptions about BPD I think that medicines are a necessary part of treatment. Also a lot of the mental health professions avoid BPD service users because it is a very hard, and demanding condition and they seem scared to try and deal with it.

Also they tend to think we are attention seeking and bad people but we do have a real condition and BPD represents a big percentage of service users. This has certainly been my experience and I want the condition to be treated with respect. It has taken me a long time to get psychological support but this is still limited and not enough. It needs more rescources and I would suggest that more people find out about the condition for example by going on bpd.org and bpd.uk

It is potentially fatal with 3 out of 10 dying from suicide and affects 2 percent of population and is more common in women.

Thank you for this posting and I apologise for the delay in responding.

I agree that there has been a lot of discrimination against people with this condition.

Thanks for the web addresses, I'll take a look to see what they say & pass them onto my colleagues.

We are now providing much better services for people with Borderline Personality Disorder, including using people who had have this diagnosis to train our staff. If you would like more information please call me on 01925 664450.
