I had to visit the hospital for an ultra sound scan because of concerns regarding a deep vein thrombosis in my calf. The scan appointment was on time and very efficiently carried out resulting in there being some evidence of clotting necessitating my being transferred to A&E. A porter was swiftly organised to take me to A&E by wheelchair where I booked in at reception. Within 20 minutes I was seen by a doctor who confirmed from seeing the outcome of the scan that there was some slight clotting in my leg. He advised that I would need some anti-clotting injections and a visit to the anti-coagulation clinic in a weeks’ time. As it was nearly 5.00pm he wrote a prescription so that my wife could obtain the injections from the pharmacy before they closed. Within another 20 minutes I was seen by the triage nurse who supervised my self injecting. I then arranged at A&E reception an appointment at the anti-coagulation clinic and left the hospital within an hour of arriving at A&E. The staff were efficient and helpful, all my questions were answered clearly and I would commend the department on handling my situation very well.
