"11 week old baby in for minor op, no bed"

About: Lister Hospital

Anything else?

My daughter was scheduled in for a minor op, she's 11 week old. Told to arrive at 7.30, told to wait in waiting area between the children's wards. Consultant talked us through th op at 8.15 and all seemed ok. At 8.30 still in same waiting area and pre- op assessment done in this area. Porter arrived but she wasn't ready to go due to not being booked in. She was then put into a gown and left to wait in the waiting area which was very cold. Porter came back just after 9 and we walked to theatres without being offered a blanket by the nurses. We had to ask for one. We were then paraded to theatre to then have to wait in a back corridor with no chairs until she returned, In recovery only one was allowed in, bearing in mind one of us was still left in the corridor. We then went back to the holding area as no bed was available. We basically were kept in this waiting room for 3 hours until eventually we lost patience and asked to be discharged. Dreadful service, thankfully the op went well.

We're really very that this was your experience, which we would like to have folllowed up to at least make sure that you are provided with an apology for what happened. Perhaps you would let us do this for you - just email us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net? We really hope that you give us that chance, because all the issues that you've mentioned need to be looked in to so that lessons are learnt going forward.
