"Bad staff communication"

About: St Helier Hospital

Anything else?

My husband was brought into A &E on Sunday with a broken leg told he would need a pin, Nil by mouth for op on Monday , but due to other ops running over, was delayed until Tuesday, nil by mouth again. as we live nearer St Peters my husband asked if the op couldnt be done on Tuesday if he could be moved nearer to St Peters so that he could at least get a change of clothes ( only had his football shorts since Sunday) was told around 2pm that the op wasnt going ahead and said he was going to be transferred to St Peters at 9pm for op on Wednesday, so was given something to eat, even though he questioned this with 2 members of staff, just as he finished eating he received the message he was going to Theatre, which resulted in a very unhappy surgeon coming onto ward to find out what has happened, hence no surgery and now no transfer they will operate Wednesday.

10.51 wednesday waiting to hear.

We all appreciate how busy hospitals and staff are , but this lack of communication is appalling and very stressful on patients, especially when they are far from home.

Thank you for your feedback. It seems there was a break down in communication on our behalf and we apologise for the stress caused. Dr James Marsh Joint Medical Director
