"on the ward after an endoscopy"

About: Derriford Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

In January 2012 I was admitted to the ward as a result of having an endoscopy. The day nurses were excellent in every way, but the night staff, one nurse in particular was very curt with me. I was on a drip for 3 days and nights. I am only able to sleep on my left side and on one occasion the drip came out causing blood to seep onto the sheets and pillows. I felt I was told off like a naughty child (I am 77 years old) and my right hand was tied to the side of the bed. I could not sleep and had a very uncomfortable night.

On the reverse, I fell from my bed and all the staff could not do enough for me. I was not hurt but a lady came later that night to check on me (I have ms and can fall without warning).

Good morning,

I am very concerned to read your comments regarding your stay in January of this year, following an endoscopy. I would very much like to speak to you in order that we can look into your concerns and I was upset to read that you felt told off like a naughty child; this is totally unacceptable.

My contact number is 01752 439751 and I would very much like to speak to you so that we can ensure that your concerns are fully addressed. I do hope we can speak soon.

With best wishes

Mary

Good afternoon

Further to my earlier e-mail, please can I reassure you that your comments have been brought to the attention of the Matron with responsibility for the Endoscopy Deparment who has written to all Ward Managers following your posting. We are very keen to follow up in more detail on your earlier posting and if there is any further information that you could share with me that would allow us to do so, I would be most grateful to speak to you. I can be contacted at the telephone number given above but if I am out of the office, the PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison team) can also get a message to me.

Kind regards

Mary
