"my fathers treatment at local nhs hospital"

(as the patient),

my father was treated appallingly in a local hospital last year and subsequently died from terminal cancer. he was left in a filthy ward, sitting in a plastic chair day and night for a month, suffered horrendous bed sores which were never spotted, not given adequate pain relief, not given clean drinking water,on one occasion he was left overnight in soiled pyjamas, he was misdiagnosed, sent home to die on a bank holiday weekend with insufficient pain relief and my family and i spent the entire weekend driving around to various on-call pharmacies and doctors in order to get the medication he required. he was completely neglected and left to die in pain and with no dignity. we are currently pursuing the complaints procedure and find it to be an absolute farce.

we have referred complaint to healthcare commission who don't seem to be able to do much. if i had cared for an elderly person and had treated them in this way then i would have found myself in prison.if my dad had been in a care home and had been neglected in this way then the care home manager would find themselves in court. i find it totally unbelievable that the nhs can get away with this and are not accountable to anyone. my own mp brought my fathers case up in parliament. i only received a letter in response to my complaint to the hospital after my mp intervened and even then it took 8 months to get the response.
