"Not listened to during arthritis flare up"

About: Ipswich Hospital / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

I have rheumatoid arthritis, mainly in my right leg and ankle. For the past two weeks, I have been in a lot of pain. My ankle and foot have swollen a lot, and the pain in my ankle has been agonising. I tried to get in touch with the hospital, but something weird was happening with the phones, and no-one was getting the messages I left. A week later, still in pain, I was able to speak to someone who said there were no emergency appointments available. Eventually, I was given an appointment, saw the doctor that I have been assigned to, and told me that it couldn't be arthritis as the foot was too swollen. I told him that that was exactly what happened when I first contracted rheumatoid arthritis, the swollen feet and the awful pain, but he ignored me. He sent me to X-ray because he was convinced I'd broken my ankle, although I told him I'd not had an accident. He didn't listen to me at all. When I read Sarahb's account of her hospital visits, it really rang a bell.
