Anything else?
I was recently admitted to AMU and found the experience very distressing.
The nurses looking after me did not seem to be aware of the noise they were making and I don't mean working noise having to listen to staff laughing and joking in a manner that I could here every word this was after midnight, things like did you see her pictures on face book hello darling you look gorgeous and coming onto to the ward to assist patients giggling loudly.
When I bussed the nurse because my canueler had come loose they said they would secure it with a bandage and put some tape on it and went away after an hour the tape had come unstuck I bussed again and they came back and said oh didn't I put the bandage on and went to get one but 2 hours later I bussed again and showed the dangling canueler they said they would do it but I said I wanted it taking out which they did.
After a while I felt wet on my hand were the canuler had been and when I looked my hand was covered in blood and so were the bed clothes. I buzzed the nurse and they started going on about how I should of put pressure on it I was upset I had buzzed so they could help me get cleaned up I felt they were being very defensive and I said it was up to then to make sure the bleeding had stopped before they left which they hadn't done.
By now I was so upset and tired I just wanted to go home as I felt I would get better there as all that was happening was I was getting exhaustingly tired.
I explained this to the nurse and called my husband to come for me the nurse asked me to sign self discharge papers which I refused they called for the doctor who came and asked me what the problem was I explained I was tired and upset and wanted to go home he said ok .
,
I feel that all of this could have been avoided if the nurses could feel more empathy for the patients in their care.
