Anything else?
Having not had cause to attend a hospital for myself since a tonsillectomy at the age of 4, I was somewhat apprehensive about what to expect.
I was encouraged to use the Ilkeston Community Hospital by my GP and was not disappointed. I selected my choice from 4 hospitals in December and chose 15/1/13 for my first appointment to see the Consultant, who was very informative. Within a few days, I had 2 letters, one for the routine pre-op and the actual operation itself on 20/02/13. I was pretty impressed !
The day for the surgery arrived- I was told to be there for 1pm. I was allocated a bed, blood pressure checked and was told I was to be 2nd on the list. I was continually updated by nurses. I was also visited by several other personnel who were to assist with the procedure. The anaesthetist and the Surgeon were all very polite and informative. The procedure itself took about 35 minutes (which felt more like 5) and I was taken back to the ward. I felt fine. I was fed, had a drink and was allowed home at around 6pm. I even received a telephone call the day after to check if I was ok.
2 days later, I feel better than I thought I would. I didn't expect to be walking the same day, let alone feeling well.
My advice is if you've got a minor problem like a hernia, get it sorted, there's nothing to be afraid of. I thoroughly recommend my local community hospital ( and the NHS)
