I was taken by ambulance and admitted to A&E with severe abdominal pain about 2pm. After some X-rays and pain relief I was taken to a 'waiting' ward at 7:30pm till a bed was available on ward 207 at 1:00 am. The next day I was moved to ward 203 where my treatment continued with saline drips and intravenous anti-biotics for another 9 nights. They had trouble deciding on the cause of my pain, but, after a few more scans over several days, it became clear to them that my Gall bladder was inflamed. I must thank one doctor in particular and the other doctors generally from the consultant's team for chasing my case and trying to keep me up to date on things.

Once all the data was known things went well, they changed my anti biotics etc, and gradually controlled my temperature.

A consultant, the Gall bladder expert came and explained that it was too dangerous to operate to remove the gall bladder while it's inflamed and that I may have to have it drained if my temperature isn't stabilised, But, luckily, the next few days my temps were good and it was decided to send me home with oral anti biotics, wait for my gall bladder to shrink and return later for surgery.

I was in Frenchay for 11 days. I only have good words for the nurses and others that work in ward 203, they were all very kind, helpful and professional. It's probably not fair to name particular people, but I feel I have to mention one nurse, who's experienced, expert nursing skills were outstanding and he was usually able to tell me what to expect next. I would be grateful if you would pass on my thanks to all the 203 C wing nurses for doing what they do so well.
