"Hand Surgery"

About: Leicester General Hospital

Anything else?

The standard of care that I have received from all three hospitals in Leicester, starting with a scan at an eerily empty Glenfield, on the Saturday before Christmas, has been first class all the way. I saw a Consultant at the Royal on 21.1.13., he referred me to another Consultant who I saw at Glenfield on 1.2.13. Both consultants gave me the opportunity to ask questions and were both professional and approachable. Te second Consultant performed my surgery yesterday as a day case patient on Ward 18 at the General.

I found the facilities on Ward 18 completely acceptable, clean and bright with everyone allocated their own bed. I was the last patient on the morning list so it was quite a wait, but that is only to be expected on a day case Ward, someone has to be last! Being on a mixed Ward was not a problem, the men were at the far end and unless you walked down there to stretch your legs, the only time you saw a male patient was when they went past on their way to the theatres. Throughout the day the staff were both caring and friendly and kept me fully informed of where I was on 'the list'. The anaesthetist and Consultant came to see me before the operation, they both explained in detail what would be happening during the surgery. The care in the operatiing theatre and recovery room, following a general anaesthetic, was of the same high standard and back on Ward 18 I was, once again, looked after with care and consideration. The orange juice, vegetable soup, chicken sandwich, yoghurt and cup of tea arrived and were delicious. I left with all the correct paperwork and appropriate medication.

All in all, there was not a single thing that could have been done for me that was not done. The new system of sending a copy of all correspondence between doctors to the patient is very welcome, it means that we are kept fully informed of any decisions that are being made with regard to our treatment. The NHS is under fire constantly, some of which I have no doubt is justified, but that is why it is important to share our good experiences with future patients.

Hi Carole,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such positive comments about your treatment and care with us. As you say, it's important that people share their good experiences with others, as well as the bad, so everyone can see the high standards we aim to deliver and maintain to all patients. We can't admit to being infallible, but we do deliver caring at it's best wherever and whenever possible! I will pass your feedback onto the Orthopaedic team, who I have no doubt will be humbled by your kind words.

All the best,

Communications Team
