"My dad's excellent care by Heartlands Hospital"

About: Heartlands Hospital / Colorectal surgery

(as a relative),

My dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer in February 08 - he was seen by the consultant who would operate within 2 weeks and given a date for his operation. At all stages my dad, mom and myself were consulted.

My dad had a pre-op assessment, and duly went in for his operation with some degree of apprehension. Unfortunately for my dad (who was not in the best of health), he didn't survive after his operation - after battling though and with much intervention and every resource being thrown at him.

The Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham were absolutely superb at every stage of dad's care - the staff worked tirelessly with dad and exhausted every option to try and save him. When he finally passed away in the Intensive Care Unit it was with us all around him and we felt incredibly privileged to have been with him at that time - he was at peace and in no pain.

I know I speak on behalf of all of the family when we say we were thrilled with the dignity and respect that he received every step of the way. We cannot praise enough those individuals who cared for him - they are truly amazing.
