"Bottle feeding promoted over breastfeeding"

About: Harold Wood Hospital Queen's Hospital (Romford)

(as the patient),

After reading another woman's opinion that bottle feeding is promoted over breastfeeding in Queens Hospital, I would just quickly like to add that I experienced the same thing in Harold Wood Hospital when I was sixteen. Despite cramming on breastfeeding literature and being determined to breastfeed, I too had bottled baby milk thrust at me. I was in for a few nights and found the nurses got annoyed whenever my baby cried at night and although I was doing very well establishing feeding, I was bombarded with so called 'top-up feeds' which ruined my chances of brestfeeding for as long as I would have liked to. Very disappointing and surprising as I had assumed the hospital would have been keen to encourage breastfeeding.

Thank you for telling us about your experiences, it sounds like you had a difficult time. You can get more advice on breastfeeding support, from La Leche League and their magazines.
