"Long Stay in Vanguard Unit"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

Anything else?

My dad came through A&E suffering from all kinds of symptoms & aware that he had a UTI on arrival. Long-term catheter user, UTI diagnosed, no other symptoms looked at, although obviously very unwell. Transferred to Vanguard Mobile Unit. I collected anti-biotics from pharmacy, found water in A&E & gave my dad first dose. Considering UTI was diagnosed, no water was available in this warm, stuffy mobile unit. Waited for transport back to Nursing Home whilst dad continued to hallucinate. As a spinal cord injured person he spent 10 hours on trolley without food or water offered. Transport arranged for mobile person but dad travels by stretcher. Transort turned up a couple of times but they were unable to transport him. Finally, arrived back at Nursing Home 23:30 after 10 hours on trolley. Nursing station in Vanguard Unit not visible by patients. It was like a short stay ward without nurse supervision. I'm glad we were able to stay and I personally would never like to spend time in the Vanguard mobile unit again. (Daughter).
