"Wonderful birth experience (1st time mother)"

About: The Royal London Hospital

Anything else?

My husband and I were truly pleased with the great help and support that we received from the team of midwives, doctors and consultants who assisted me during the birth of our first child. I had a 12 hour long labour and was given epidural pain relief when asked for at 6 cms dilated. Although I was quite unsupportive towards the doctors when they were checking me for internal vaginal examinations, not once did the midwives or doctors be negative or angry towards me. They were constantly helpful and mindful of the pain that I was in.

I had heard horror stories from friends and colleagues who had previously given birth at the old RLH but the new building has large private labour rooms with bathrooms and space for my husband and second birthing partner. The room was very comfortable and there was always at least 1 midwife in my room to monitor the baby's heartbeat and my condition if I wanted a top up of epidural or was thirsty.

Although my baby's head was stuck at the birthing canal, the consultants were immediately called in who decided to conduct a small tear for assisted delivery using forceps. The entire process was very smooth and precise and the doctors kept ensuring that my husband and I were fully aware of the situation at all times.

The post natal amenity room that we had booked was very good as they provided food for me and my birthing partner. The room was large with in-built bathroom and the mid wife services were very good at the amenity rooms as well.

I just want to thank the entire team (morning team and evening team) at the RLH on 30th Jan who helped me give birth to my first baby daughter, despite me being difficult, cranky and impatient. No amount of thanks may be sufficient and I hope this post will provide most of you soon-to-be parents with an idea of the excellent service that is provided at the new RLH. Highly highly recommended. My birthing experience would have been a nightmare anywhere else, I am so glad I chose RLH over the other hospitals in Tower Hamlets.
