"lots of room for improvement"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital

Anything else?

i found the staff on ward 24 to be very sensitive to patients minor complaints and feel that some staff members took any criticism very personally and became defensive rather than taking any remarks made [good and bad] constructively.

also there was a lack of basic hygiene, ie staff using the hand cleanser [placed at the botton of the bed end] between patients with whom they had skin contact proceedures..

an example i experienced was when a nurse was doing the drug round they broke off to raise a patients legs who i know had a pressure sore infection and then proceeded to complete the drug round handling medicines without cleansing their hands.

this is the wayserious cross infection can happen. i never saw the matron during my time that i was an in patient to complain to about my concerns.

i experienced alot of errors. i trained as a registered nurse in the seventies and was a sister for thirty years therefore i feel able to compare nursing standards at all levels and i would say at least 50% of the staff in all aspects of the nursing fell short of acceptable in patient care and hygiene
