"My daughters Stay in the childrens ward King Mill"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

Dear Sirs

After constantly reading negative press and headlines regarding the state of our local health authorities specifically Kings Mill Hospital I would like to re-address the balance with the more positive, professional experience my family has experienced over the last 4 days on the Children’s ward at the hospital.

After a few days of severe sickness my wife and I decided it was time to make the daunting trip with my 4 year old daughter to A&E at Kings Mill. Earlier in the day we had gone to the 24 hour drop in centre alongside the hospital and been told if things got worse a trip to A& E would be best advice.

Late Thursday night in A&E we were seen too quickly and professionally. Although the wait to see paediatrician took some time we were regularly informed about what was happening and what was likely to happen with our daughter and our worries calmed.

After being taken up to the Ward 25 by a friendly porter we were immediately put at ease by one of the Children’s Nurses Hazel who again introduced herself and told not only me and my wife but our daughter what was going to happen over the next few hours. The following 4 days on ward 25 was an experience that was not only calming for our daughter and ourselves but made the stay comfortable and worry free. The ward itself was fantastic, clean well equipped with toys and books and even a visit from some live musicians which were incredible. At the end / start of each shift new staff would again introduce themselves and clearly explain the situation and ongoing diagnosis to us all.

I Would like to thank ALL the staff at the hospital from the friendly cleaners and catering staff to the Doctors and nurses that looked after our daughter, specifically Hazel and Emma. Her first experience of a hospital stay is now on the whole a pleasurable one and any future visits will not be a worry for her.

Many thanks again and if you could pass our warm thanks onto all the staff especially Ward 25 from all the family.
