"Working while in drug treatment"

About: Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

Whilst in treatment at horizon house I had gained full time employment, straight away this started to cause problems as horizon house is only open during the day and I did not have a lunch break long enough to allow me to attend any of these appointments whilst working, which resulted in me having to take unpaid hours away from work as I hadn't built up any holiday days, unfortunately my employer wasn't helpful and didn't approve of this weekly situation which resulted in disciplinary action, which eventually lead me to drop out of treatment and having to use drugs just to be able to continue work this just is not either ideal or acceptable but a choice I had to make and there really needs to be more support for people in employment and treatment. ie late appointments for doctors and nurse prescription collection appointments at horizon house.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experience whilst receiving treatment through our addiction services at Horizon House. Firstly may we apologise for the delay in responding to this. In April 2013, this service was taken over by a joint partnership between Nacro, Aquarius and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. Together they now provide the Wolverhampton substance misuse services that were based at Horizon House.

We will always strive to support service users to find suitable appointment dates and times to fit around their working life and/or other commitments they may have. Feedback is very important to us and we will take the above comment on board and use it to help improve the other services we offer throughout the Trust.’
