"care treatment plan feb 2013"

About: Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

I have a treatment plan that I think is rubbish I am a service user of the trust in south leeds and it feel like the current plan is not flexible it also feels like that when I want to change something in the plan on certain occasions staff are like it says this or it says that.

May I just remind you a plan is a plan, it is not a legal binding document. It feels like the trust is more bothered about saving money and a don't really care for my mental health or my well being.

I have felt this way since Oct 2012.

Dear Jordan2012,

Thank you for getting in touch here on Patient Opinion. I think it would be a good idea if we could talk more about the details of your situation in person, but I’m happy to respond here in general terms first of all.

I’m Marrisa Carroll, Locality Manager for the area which covers south Leeds. I'm sorry to hear you’re not happy with your current care plan and you are completely correct: it’s not a legally binding document and it shouldn’t feel inflexible or restrictive.

There is sometimes a benefit to having some consistency and structure to a care plan, so that everyone involved clearly knows what is expected of them and what goals are being worked towards. Care plans that are changed too quickly or too regularly can lose some of this focus.

However, your care plan should always be formally reviewed to take into account changes in your circumstances or following significant events, and you should play an important role in this.

Although for practical reasons it’s not always possible for everyone to have everything they want in a care plan, it is always our wish that people feel involved in their care - and this includes the writing and reviewing of their care plan.

Therefore I’m sorry you’re not feeling sufficiently listened to at the moment and I’d like to help if I can. If you contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service on 0800 0525790 or at pals.lypft@nhs.net they will be able to put you in touch with me directly.

Please let me close by saying that although the NHS is facing financial pressures, our priority remains the care and support we provide for people who access our services.

I’m hopeful that if we have a chat I can reassure you that your wellbeing and recovery is the most important thing to us, and we can look into making your care plan more relevant to your needs.

I look forward to hearing from you should you choose to get in touch.

Your sincerely,

Marrisa Carroll
