I was taken to Musgrove Hospital as an emergency admission after suffering peritonitis secondary to perforated diverticular disease.
After many tests and every scan you can think of I was given a 30% chance of survival and was rushed to have operation, after which I spent time on ITU unit. I remember very little about this time but still here so they must have done great job.
I was then moved to ward 4. During my stay I suffered from confusion due to infection and opiates and I must have been very hard work to look after but all staff were very professional and caring at all times.
Although the ward was old (built in second world war) it was always clean and tidy, the longer I stayed on ward 4 my admiration of all staff from the cleaners up to the consultants got higher and higher.
I had to return to ward 4 5 months later with a small bowel obstruction and had a smaller operation and spent about 2 weeks on the ward in which time I got to know staff a lot better and looked at them as friends, all staff worked hard non-stop.
I think the night staff could do with more help as they seemed to be rushed off their feet and some time it looks a real struggle for them.
Wonderful staff can’t praise them enough.
"Impressed by care on Ward 4"
