"very unhappy patient"

About: Orpington Hospital

Anything else?

I went to orpington hospital today for an appoitment that I had waited well over a month for in the dermatology department.

Once there I was told there was a wait as the doctor was running late which is fair enough, unfortunately I could not wait as I had to get to work, as I was rebooking my appoitment a nurse approached me and asked if she could have a word, as I went over to the side with her she then said "I would like to give you a piece of advice next time you come in here can you not have a cigarette before hand as I am asthmatic and so is the doctor" she then went on to say "talking to you makes my chest hurt!" She then put on a voice as if she couldnt breath which is highly unacceptable!!

She also said that "the doctor is asthmatic too so it would effect her aswell" So being a smoker does that mean I am not entitled to the same care of a nonsmoker because the doctor will be effected?

After this she then told me that the doctor had asked for me to have a blood test before my next appointment I told her I can not recall the doctor asking me to have a blood test therefore I have not had one done, she then replied well its in your notes in a sarcastic voice which made me feel like a liar, her tone of voice was very patronising and her attitude was very bad.

Due to this I am now getting in contact with my local doctor so I can be admitted to another hospital as I am deeply offended

I am very sorry that you were offended by the nurse you met at your appointment. This is clearly not how we would expect our staff to talk to patients. If you would like to discuss this with someone at the Trust, who will be able to investigate what happened and speak to the nurse involved. You can contact them on Tel: 01689 863252 Email: slh-tr.br-pals@nhs.net
