About: St Michael's Hospital (Hayle)

Anything else?

Exemplary care.

Total dedication to their work in caring for your health.

I have never seen such dedication and attention to detail in a hospital.

The NHS should be proud of St Michael's and hold them up as the standard for the rest of the nation.

My stay;

I was greeted in reception by a gentleman who took me up to the ward where I was greeted within a few minutes by a nurse who talked me through the basics and showed me around briefly.

She explained the timeline of the day, when my surgeon and anaesthetist would visit and what to expect after surgery.

I got settled and unpacked my bags.

Shortly after, another nurse took me through some pre-operative questions and then the anaesthetist joined us to go through some more questions.

The surgeon came to visit and we talked through the procedure and he drew some lines on me to mark out his incisions.

I was third on the list so I had to sit about for a few hours but I had brought plenty to read and was offered use of the day-room.

Mid-morning, the porter came to take me down to the theatre and stayed with me while I waited. He kept me chatting and never left my side.

It's quite a daunting experience so I appreciated the lengths the staff went to in keeping me relaxed and feeling safe.

The anaesthetist and her staff were fantastic and put me at ease.

I was included in all decisions and everything was explained thoroughly to me at all times.

The post-surgery/recovery team were brilliant and helped me come round with as little stress as possible.

The nursing staff throughout my over-night stay were exemplary. They were always available to answer any questions or concerns and to provide care & support.

They genuinely care about their patients and went out of their way to offer practical assistance and emotional support.

The house-keeping staff were dedicated to the utmost cleanliness and standards on the ward and I have not seen such a deep cleaning practice as what I experienced when my room-mate was discharged.

Finally, the food was good quality and tasty.

I can't praise these lovely people enough.

Thank you!
