"Femoral Head Fracture"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Anything else?

I arrived on a Tuesday evening and was diagnosed with a fracture of the femoral head. There were no free wards on Tuesday night but the A&E staff made me comfortable there for the night. I was given surgery on Wednesday - with three screws placed in the femoral head. On Thursday the physio's had me up on crutches and I was home on Thursday night - less than 48 hours after my injury! All the hospital staff were friendly and professional even though they were very busy. The nurses in particular in ward 2 were a fantastic team. The doctors (residents, consultants, surgeons) were all excellent but would have been nice if they could have spent a bit more time before and afterwards talking through options. The physio staff were good in getting me on crutches and mobile. All around I felt I got excellent, professional treatment.
