Anything else?
I had my TKR on 25th October 2012. I was very worked up about it and was as nervous as hell , really thought I was going to cancel that morning! I didn't of course but did opt for spinal and general anaesthesia as other patients who had had surgery told me afterwards that they could hear the surgeons hammering away like they were stonemasons. I would have freaked out had I heard this so if you are in doubt re anaesthesia have general.
I was in Ward D from thursday till saturday wheni got moved to Ward 5 which is enormous. Things then went downhill, had to have blood transfusion, passed out over the most driest baked potato with beans I have ever had he misfortune to try and eat. Had the blood, spiked a temperature, it got stopped overnight then restarted. Found quite a variation in nursing from passive, to cant be bothered to really caring, the physio's one at the end was nice the other one wasn't.
Can only compliment a head of physio who saw me before and after my operation, they kept their promises and took me to X-Ray too. I should have been in for 3-4days, instead was in 8 days. Didn't much are for the general doctor who could hardly speak english when I had general medical issues not related to my TKR. My surgeon is brilliant and my scar is very neat and healing nicely.
I cant fault the ward as they let you use mobile phones, even laptops which isn't always a good idea as a fellow patient got annoyed at the TV being switched off late at night, moaned like heck then had her laptop on and fell asleep!
They offer accomodation is need be for relatives but my parents clocked up 1,000 miles as i dont live in Wigan, am in Kendal.
