"Support for working parents"

About: Birmingham Children's Hospital

Anything else?

My daughter is seen by the Birmingham CAMHS team; there is little or no support anymore to enable parents, single or otherwise to attend appointments with their children without risking their employment status. I used to get good support with this but her Consultant left and the secretarys tell me they are powerless to help. When I cancel appointments I cannot attend (I do not DNA) I have received a letter saying I have cancelled my appointment "yet again" which I find offensive and unsupportive. Working parents actively contribute to the support of public services and working with us ensures the best care for our children and minimises the additional process and red tape in rearranging and cancelling appointments. The service has failed to regularly update my GP with treatment chenges and progress over the years but has managed to copy my GP into a letter which syas i have cancelled "yet again".

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on your experience of the CAMHS service. We are sorry that you have had some difficulty in arranging appointments that are suitable for you and your child to attend the CAMHS service. We would be happy to discuss this further with you to look at how we can help with this situation. If you would like to contact Dawn Sharples, CAMHS Service Manager, on 07789945206 we can discuss this further. We have a responsibility to notify the referrer and GP of our patients that they have not attended an appointment, however I am sorry if our wording has caused you offence. We would like to understand where the letter came from so that we can look into this further. Please do not hesitate to contact Dawn as we take all feedback seriously and appreciate that this will allow us to improve our service and the experience for the families that attend.

Kind regards,

Karen Kelly
