Phoned NHS direct who said to get to hospital immediately by ambulance or taxi. Took a taxi (probably a mistake) Arrived at hospital, could not walk. Taxi driver got wheelchair and then security helped seat me in chair and took me to reception. I was booked in and told there was a two and half hour wait. It was obvious I was in severe pain. And hour later a nurse came and took my details - I emphasised I was on my own. Asked nurse to take me to toilet as medication had increased need to urinate. She wheeled me to the door of the toilet and left. I had to struggle out of the chair and back on my own despite the pain. Crawled back into the wheelchair which was in the entrance to reception and freezing cold. When I had sat there for over half an hour a member of the public (she had seen me come in) came and wheeled me back to main waiting area.

As the nurse had disappeared I asked another nurse whether I was going to be seen soon (I thought this was a reasonable question as other people had been called almost immediately after completion of the paper work) The nurse was extremely aggressive and told me to wait my turn. I explained that I was not being difficult but I wanted information. After another hour and a half I was finally called in to see a doctor. She told me I had a trapped sciatic nerve. I was left on the bed, in agony. Had to get myself up off the bed and, as I was not with anyone, I had to walk to reception to get a taxi. By the time I got home the pain was extremely bad and I was no better off. To put it euphemistically I had very clearly been told to 'push off!'
