"Looking after an elderly dementia sufferer"

My mother is 94 years old, in frail physical health with memory loss problems, mild dementia, occasional psychoses and eating disorders. I have looked after her for over 23 years as her health has deteriorated slowly.

The receptionists at my mother's doctors have always been a surly lot and you have to run the gauntlet to speak to a doctor or get one to visit. Because my mother went through a phase of calling the doctors every day, sometimes more than once a day because of her mental health problems, it is obvious that her doctors have put her on a nuisance list. You now have to run the gauntlet of the doctor as well to get a visit. I won't mention how appallingly they have treated me when I have only being doing my best for mother.

I understood that elderly persons should receive regular calls from their doctors but my mother's doctors have never done this. She can now go from one year's end to the next without seeing anybody from her doctors' surgery at all.

Visit to the hospital are no better. My mother's psychiatric care is a total shambles.
