About: St Helier Hospital

Anything else?

I took my 3 year old daughter to the A&E department of St Helier in early December due to a sudden severe pain in her hip. She has had this before on and off, so I wanted someone to see her whilst the pain was present as we had not managed to do this before. We waited about 20 minutes to see the triage nurse and typically, my daughters pain was gone and she was running around like normal! Nevertheless the triage nurse was very quick and we then waited only 15 or 20 minutes to see the casualty doctor. She said she had a few ideas of what the problem could be, and decided to send her for an ultrasound scan, as it was 7am she said if we went straight away they may be able to fit us in before the main appointments started. We went to the ultrasound department who were very happy to help, but mentioned that it may save time if we went to Xray first before ultrasound as that would most likely be where the Dr would send us next. We did this and had both Xrays and ultrasounds done very quickly and efficiently before returning to the Casualty Dr. In the time we had been gone, this Dr had discussed our case with a senior and again came up with some ideas of what the problem could be. They decided that they would like a consultant to have a look at the scans to double check a possible diagnosis and we would be hearing from them with an outpatient appointment. So all of this was very fast and efficient and we were very happy.

However we are now in Mid January and so far have not heard anything about going to get the results and have the consultation, so we are starting to get a little concerned about this. I understand and accept that I have some responsibility in regards to calling up to ask about the appointment, but feel that even just a one page letter stating that we attended the department and what the scan results were and what the next steps would be would be helpful.
