Anything else?
While the speed and efficiency of the care my husband is receiving are great, getting to see the consultant is proving nigh-on impossible. He has been waiting for 4 days now, either taking up a bed that someone else could have, or alternatively, if the healing isn't going to plan, having the next procedure delayed unnecessarily. It is completely infuriating that the consultant (presumably busy at the private hospitals he works at) can't find the time to turn up, particularly when we do have private medical insurance that would get my husband out of there, and free up the NHS bed for someone who needs it more.
The nurses are pretty good, but it shouldn't be their job to beg and plead with the doctors to actually turn up. Overall, I'm hugely disappointed in the Consultant.
Also, being a "lean" practioner myself, The Productive Ward initiative is a bit of a joke, and little more than a "nod" towards process improvement. If the staff had time I'm sure it would work, but they don't, so it all muddles along with no change at all other than some laminated A4 sheets on the notice boards. It's rare that I'd suggest that external consultants/whoever came in and "did it" to the staff, rather than involving them, but there simply isn't time for anyone to participate, what with caring for patients and everything.
"Where have all the consultants gone?"
