"leeds crisis team"

About: Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as a carer),

I've had to call the crisis team 4 times over the past couple of weeks and I feel they have been absolutley no help whatsoever. I am a carer for my partner with bpd she is often suicidal and self harms regularly.

When I believe she has needed crisis intervention all I am told is call nhs direct. I did this a few days ago and got an ambulance to go to a & e only to sit there for 4 hours and wait for, you guessed it, the crisis team.

They just send you around in circles without the problem being sorted at all. very dissapointed

Dear nohelp_2013

It's very disappointing to hear that you don't feel the crisis team are offering you adequate support in your times of need. The past couple of weeks seem to have been particularly difficult, and I imagine this is taking a toll on you as well.

From what I gather from your posting, we seem to be responding to crisis situations rather than looking at longer-term strategies for her safety and recovery.

It sounds like a review of your partner's care/crisis plan would be in order, to see if there's anything that can be done to better support you both in times of crisis, or better still, prevent things reaching crisis point.

I've already alerted PALS (our Patient Advice & Liaison Service) about this case, as they can work with you and your partner's Care Co-ordinator to have a look at what can be done to improve the way we support you both. They can be contacted on 0800 0525790 or pals.lypft@nhs.net.

We also have a Carers Team, who are there to address both the emotional and practical needs of those looking after someone experiencing mental health difficulties. It may be worthwhile giving them a call on 0113 2954445, to make sure you yourself have some support.

And lastly, Leeds Survivor Led Crisis Service is an excellent local resource both for people in crisis, and for those requiring support in caring for others. Their information can be found here: http://www.lslcs.org.uk/.

I don't wish to distract from your obvious frustration by merely giving you numbers to call, but I am hopeful that if you contact PALS we can get things back on track.

If this still doesn't provide any improvement in you and your partner's experience of our services (and more importantly, her general wellbeing), I'm happy to raise the matter with the relevant manager with your partner's consent and your full involvement.

Thank you for taking the time to share your story here on Patient Opinion; I do hope we can work together to move things forward for you both.

Yours sincerely,

Jeanette Lawson
