"Accident and Emergency"

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

Anything else?

I went to A and E with a really bad UTI. Certainly, everyone with whom I came into contact were professional, caring etc. But, they left me in agony without any pain relief. I was discharged after intravenous antibiotics without any painkillers. As a result, I had to contact the out ouf hours emergency service for pain relief which was given without hesitation. Just because people do not scream/shout, behave aggressively or abuse staff doesn't mean they are not in pain.

We were pleased to note that the staff you met were caring and professional but it was unacceptable that your pain was not managed. Your comments have been flagged to the senior matron and most senior doctor in the Emergency Department to feed into their ongoing work improving pain management in the department. If you feel able to contact PALS via pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk with your details the staff would then be able to look at the specifics of your case and identify the staff who interacted with you. On behalf of the hospital we are sorry your pain was not managed properly.
