I attended the x-ray dept at RVI on the morning of 10th January 2013 for an ultrasound scan, referred by Gynaecology dept. I had, that morning, slipped when getting out of the shower and banged my neck on the sink (very stupidly). Anyway, the nurse who called me into the ultrasound room noticed my "stiffness" and asked if I was ok, I explained that I had slipped and hurt my neck. When the nurse returned with the Sonographer they were very concerned about my injury, so much so that they suggested that I went straight to A & E to have my neck checked out. The nurse very kindly escorted me to A & E too! How wonderful is that? Such care and concern when they had a very busy waiting room full of people. I hadn't really considered that I may have seriously injured my neck, but they were absolutely brilliant -a credit to the trust.

On getting to A & E I was very quickly triaged and before I knew what was happening was on a trolley with my head strapped down and off for some x-rays! Thankfully, no major damage was done although extremely painful still, the lovely lady doctor who treated me said the pain would probably get worse before it gets better and to take painkillers. She explained about the muscles in my neck and what I had probablly done which had caused the inflammation. She then gave me a head injury leaflet and told me to come back if I got worse symptoms etc. Absolutely brilliant experience, and not at all what I had been expecting when I woke up that morning! Please extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff who helped and reassured me in both departments. I can be what people consider to be " a difficult patient" usually due to the fact that I get panic attacks and sometimes come across as rude, when actually I am just frightened. Thankfully I had prepared myself for my appointment for the ultrasound scan alongside the pain in my neck, was relatively distracted and I was actually quite proud of myself for coping so well! (Agrophobia & Bi-polar). Anyway, my faith has been restored and it is comforting to know that there really are Angels working in our hospitals.
