About: Charing Cross Hospital

What could be improved

Where do I start? Their cock-ups began from the moment I arrived with an acute problem - from the pre-assessment doctor mixing up my name with someone else's who hadn't read my notes nor heard what I told him as to what caused my appearance at this A&E in the middle of the night, to the specialist a few days down the line incorrectly diagnosing me after not reading or misreading results of a scan.

That 'specialist' incorrectly told me the scan showed I had a tumour which according to his erroneous statement was 4.5 times smaller than it actually was and nothing to worry about. Luckily, the radiographer had been good at her job and spoke to me during the scan, so I knew what he was saying was wrong and was able to point out the error to that doctor. Were it not for the efficient radiographer, I may not have been here to tell the tale.

They lie to you – about scans, doctors, timescales, anything that'd make their life easier.

They don’t tell you what their findings are or the diagnosis. It was only when I decided to self-discharge, did a trainee come and say the reason why they wanted to keep me there was that the doctor palpated a tumour.

When I went in, I thought it’d be for a small urgent procedure, and not one person said how long I’d likely to stay – so my family kept waiting all night in the waiting area.

The hospital hibernates at the weekend – no specialists or any doctors, no scans available, you might as well not go to their A&E at the weekend.

After handover, it's like they've never heard of you before nor have they worked there before, nurses taking over the shift are clueless about what's going on and want nothing to do with earlier instructions. Lots of rude, unhelpful staff.

It's next to impossible to see a doctor, even a junior one, wouldn't dream about seeing a consultant.

Some nurses, receptionists and doctors are very rude and not suitable for working with people.

Now they're about to be closed, they put their feet up completely.
