"Care of my sister"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / General Surgery (wards 64, 65, 66,& 67) University Hospital Monklands / General Medicine (Wards 2,10,12 and 17)

(as a relative),

My sister was in wards 45 -47. She was operated on last month having skin cancer removed from her foot then a skin graft. During the night after the op she experienced excessive bleeding and the wound was exposed. I believe (as she kept insisting) that there was an infection there before the op. Then of course another infection occurred after bleeding episode.

She was sent home later and came to recuperate with me. She never got better and eventually she was readmitted to Monklands a few days later, who explained all this, saying she had a form of MRSA.

I also don't think they got treatment correct and she passed away this month. Throughout this time we were assured by "stand in doctors" because of "holidays" that she was doing ok.

So why was she allowed to die far too soon?

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to provide your feedback. I was very sorry to read that your sister passed away and I would like to offer my sincere condolences, even at this late date.

I am sorry that this posting was not acknowledged at the time, we had a break in our use of Patient Opinion, but we have now resumed doing so, and I thought it was still important to acknowledge your posting.

You raised a number of issues that are of concern and we would like to follow these up if we are can. If you feel up to doing so, can you please provide further details and send these to complaints@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and we will address these for you?

Paul

We've just been made aware of your posting after Paul's response was posted. Could I also offer my condolences? If you do feel up to contacting us, we too would like to follow up any issues you still have about Monklands Hopsital if we can.

If this is something you want to do, could you please contact Leigh McLeary, Patient Affairs Manager, on 01236 713065 or via email Leigh.McLeary@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk.
