When I arrived at the Queen's Medical Centre for jaw surgery, I was not told whether it would be taking place or not until after a 3 hour wait. The threat of having my jaw surgery cancelled caused me extra stress and inconvenience. Some patients were sent home because of a lack of beds and none of us were made very welcome or allowed to prepare for surgery until the last minute.
The staff were not sensitive to patients' needs but worried about the bed situation and were quite abrupt with me from the 6.30am phone call I made until 10am, when I was told that I was lucky enough to be able to have my surgery.
