"Flexible Sigmoidoscopy at the Royal Bolton"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Colorectal surgery

(as the patient),

After having the procedure cancelled 3 times, I was given a cancellation appointment and turned up at 10. 30 Saturday morning.

I was really nervous beforehand, having read stories on the internet, but apart from two 30 second moments of slight discomfort it was fine, and that was with no sedation, the procedure took 10 minutes at the most. The consultant who did it and the nurses on the ward were very nice.

The worst of the whole thing is having to go to the toilet after drinking the Moviprep. I had 16 glasses with a 2 hour break after the first 8. The prep isn't as bad as some people say, just stay near the toilet.

We're sorry that your original appointment was cancelled but pleased that the procedure and the preparation wasn't as bad as you had feared. Thank you for letting us know and we'll pass your comments to the staff.
