"Very good."

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

What I liked

On the 29th of December I brought my daughter to Bolton Hospital. I have to admit that my last visit to the Hospital was over 5 years ago, and I wasn’t relishing the experience.

However, I have to say that I was seen and sent to the ward from A&E well within an hour and a bit. Once arriving on the E5 ward we were straight to a bed, and seen almost right away by Nurses and Paediatricians. Due to a bought of loose stools, we were moved to a room in order to separate her from the general ward. The ward was very nice and clean, but the room we were sent to was fantastic. My daughter had her own shower, toilet and wash basin, which helped with the fact that she couldnt move much while she was there. There was also a bed in the room for me to sleep on while I stayed overnight.

The Doctors, Surgeons, Nurses, play staff and even the cleaners who constantly went out of their way to help, reassure and treat my daughter were fantastic. I cannot find fault with how they treated not only my daughter but me also. I am very appreciative of everything that they did before, during and after the operation. You all made our stay in the hospital far less stressful than it could have been.

I hope that everyone who helped and treated us knows how much we appreciate their patience in explaining everything and dealing with what at times must have been a very difficult little 8 year old.

Thank you all so much.

What could be improved

My only negative is that there was some disagreement between Surgeons about whether or not to operate at first. As it turned out on the second night they operated which was a good thing because the appendix had perforated and was gangrenous. But I understand that the diagnosis was based on the symptoms presented at the time which as the surgeon explained seemed to point to something else. .

Having a poorly eight year old between Christmas and New Year must have been the last thing you wanted, so we're really pleased that you were happy with everything at the hospital. Thank you for sharing your comments with us and with any other families who might be reading this. We hope your daughter is now making a good recovery.
