"7 month wait for biopsy result"

About: University College Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

I noticed a small mole and was referred to Dr Perrett in the general dermatology department at the Rosenheim Building.

In April 2011 he suggested that it be removed and this surgery was carried out around a month later. It was only at the surgery stage when I was told that this was actually what is called a "biopsy" and the mole was being removed and would then be tested to see if there were any problems with it. Although the building is a little shabby and run down, I found the nursing staff and doctors generally friendly. However I do not think that the course of treatment was satisfactorily explained to me from the outset.

Obviously I was a little concerned and keen to get these results back quickly. Despite plenty of chasing up by both myself and my GP I did not receive the letter, confirming the test results were benign, until December 2011.

At my final appointment this appeared to be normal practice, and not at all out of the ordinary for someone to be left worrying for seven months.

When I take my dog to the vets the test results usually come back the next day. I would like to know why this took so long, causing me stress for such a long period? Was there some kind of administrative error?
