"Our good experience at Tameside A&E "

About: Tameside General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

I arrived with my 3 year old son with a sore foot after falling down a few steps, we were seen in 5 minutes by the very pleasant triage nurse who soothed my very anxious son with her manner We were sent to X-ray. Within 5 minutes, we were in X-ray and the lady was very patient and kind to my son and managed to get him to sit still immediately for his 'pictures'. She talked to him throughout the procedure to keep him calm. We then went back to the main waiting area and I was expecting a long wait. Within 10 minutes we were sat in the paediatric waiting room which was kitted out with television, DVDs, books, toys, enough to keep my two quiet for quite a while. After 10 minutes we were being seen by a lovely child friendly doctor, who listened to me and my son to assess his injury. Thankfully there was nothing seriously wrong and he sent us on our way with advice on how to deal with a sore foot!

Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at
