What I liked

From the moment I hobbled into the Emergency Dept on Boxing Day morning all the staff were friendly and polite. The lady in reception took all my details with a very pleasant manner. She pointed me at the waiting area and told me to expect about a 1.5 hour wait. Fair enough, I was obviously not critical and the dept looked reasonably busy.

After half an hour a Nurse called me into 'streaming' to get a more detailed history. She too was friendly and polite and updated the wait time to about 2 hours. Never mind, the place was getting busy and many were obviously worse off than myself.

2 hours after checking in with reception a Doctor called me and took me into a consultation room. He introduced himself and got down to business. At no time did he make me feel that we were under any sort of time pressure and diagnosed gout and a course of tablets but with contingency plans should the tablets be ineffective. (they are working). The Doctor then left the room only to return a couple of minutes later with the tablets. Then with a 'Happy New Year' and a handshake he set off for his next patient.

Another Nurse then appeared to do Blood Pressure etc before I was sent away with a relatively clean bill of health.

What could be improved

All staff could have worn 'Santa Hats'. -Just kidding!
