I was admitted to the EAU at Royal Surrey County Hospital on Wednesday and discharged on Thursday. This was the first time I have been admitted to hospital although I work in the NHS myself.
To put it simply there was almost nothing about the experience that I didn't think was of a very high standard. It seems invidious to mention particular staff but I will and apologies that I will get names wrong:
Elana - the medical registrar - was a fantastic mix of caring and authority - and even though she was very busy she even made time to sort out my hearing problem which was nothing to do with my admission and she came in after her shift had ended to check I was ok.
Richard - night nurse - a very calm chap and exuded control
Tamsin - staff nurse - dealt with a number of demanding patients at one time in a very impressive way.
HCA with a East European background? - I'm afraid I didn't catch her name but she was a very pleasant and kind person.
Sonographer - had a scan yesterday afternoon and she was very pleasant and cheerful
Mike Hickman - cardiologist - good communicator and clearly was in charge, which makes you feel confident in your treatment.
Even a lot of the food was ok although I wasn't very hungry! Perhaps some of the housekeepers could smile more as what they do is really important and they are a key part of the team.
I know that you will get complaints from patients some of the time but I can honestly say that there was nothing about my stay that I would criticise - the whole experience was a great credit to the hospital.
