"Pleasant place and people but the nursing care..."

What I liked

1) The ward to which my father was transferred overnight after leaving A&E was a modern, pleasant environment. 2) There seemed in general to be reasonably plentiful staff on duty. 3) Almost everyone was helpful and pleasant when approached for assistance. But see next....

What could be improved

1) While my elderly father was in A&E, there were a couple of occasions when I left his bedside to summon assistance, and this was given, but no nurse or assistant dropped by unasked -- over a 7-hour period -- to see how he was doing. I was presumably trusted to call for help if need be. Had the patient (94-years old in this case) been unaccompanied.....?. 2) During a little over 24 hours at the hospital, my father was only offered a single cup of tea and two pieces of bread; and this had to be hassled for. For only some of that time was there potential need for nil by mouth. 3) After his overnight stay, I arrived to find him sitting in a cold place in just his pyjamas. It was left to me to warm him up with his dressing gown and a blanket. 4) After discharge from the hospital, it was discovered that a cannula had been left in his arm. This had been inserted at A&E, after which neither they nor the ward -- overnight or next morning -- had removed it.
