My daughter, was born just past 38 weeks. She was a good weight and seemed healthy, so it was devastating when I was informed, the next day, that she needed to be taken to SCBU immediately as she was very poorly.
She had rhesus and ABO incompatibility and as a result had jaundice and suspected sepsis. Me and my husband knew absolutely nothing about her condition and could have felt terrified and helpless, but the amazing nurses put our minds at rest straight away. They were so calm and friendly that we never once worried about her. She seemed in the best hands.
The nurses seemed to sense when we were worried and I'll never forget one nurse, June, giving me a massive hug as she sensed how scared I felt the first time I saw my daughter in the incubator, hooked up on a drip. My daughter received amazing care and the staff were always, always there for us. They even made my husband a card from our daughter as his 30th birthday happened whilst we were in there. They were always smiling, always caring and always happy to help.
We were lucky enough to bring our daughter home two weeks later and lucky enough to have received care that was second to none.
