"Very poor district nursing in the Catford area "

About: Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust

(as a carer),

My husband received his first visit from the district nurse on a recent Friday. She refused to enter the house at 11.30 am as there was an occupational health person present even though she was about to leave.

She had a very unprofessional attitude and the OC worker was also appalled by her attitude. She did not say when she would return but arrived an hour later to request his care plan which she didn't have, and disappeared again for another hour.

She then changed the dressing on his PICC line, not having any of the dressings which we had had to collect from the hospital ourselves. She then completed a form with him which she asked us to copy and I then noted there were two pages the same, ie she had brought an incomplete form. This was a totally distressing visit which lasted 4 hours unnecessarily.

She contacted us to say she would drop the care plan in on the following day but we have received nothing. We are waiting for a visit today and have been given the number to see when someone is coming so that we can try to live a normal life! However I cannot get through at all with a recording stating our call is a priority over and over with frustrating monotony to say the least.

I have come onto the internet to see if there is another way to contact the district nurses.

My husband is very very poorly and I dread to think of the sort of service he is going to receive in the time ahead. The attitude seems to be we'll deal with you when we get there (whenever that may be), when this should be a caring service giving the patient the care and understanding required.

I'm afraid it is very poor.
