"delay in receiving treatment /cataract opp."

About: Hywel Dda NHS Trust Prince Philip Hospital West Wales General Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I was referred by my optician in January this year and I received a comfirmation of my referral in early February from Hywel Dda Trust.

After numerous telephone calls during June, July and the second week in August, this lady answered and I heard her telling her colleague "this one's been waiting since January! ! " She immediately gave me an appointment to attend Prince Phillip Hospital at the end of August.

The consultant explained the procedure and I signed a consent form for my operation and said I would have a pre op. I attended Glangwili hospital at the end of September and I was told I would have the operation within 8 weeks.

I phoned at the end of October and I was told I would not receive the operation until January 2013 or even February! ! ! !

I will have been waiting over a year. The guideline with The Welsh Assembly, from referral to operation is around 26 weeks. Hywel dda Trust is not near that. I have submitted a complaint in late October and I'm still waiting for a response.

It almost feels like Hywel Dda Trust has a policy to let their patients go blind. In my case it works. I can't drive, read and I'm typing this largest print and have to use a magnifying glass.
