My late husband was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in February 2008. He had seen two GPs, several times over 18 months with obvious symptoms only to be told it was stress, anxiety, etc.
Eventually it took his psychiatrist to write to his GP to have his symptoms investigated. It was too late as he was diagnosed in A & E a short time after.
Once in the care of the hospital he had some great treatment and managed to lead a good life for four years.
If only he had not been let down so badly in Primary care he might be alive today. Why didn't our GPs take physical symptoms seriously in those with mental ill health.
