"Thank you to all in the delivery suite at Rotherham General"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was in ward B10 at the Rotherham District General hospital during my labour. I was given the very best of care in the delivery suite, and thank you to all staff who were there at the time.

However, I had very few visits from the midwives while on the ward, so I was left to feel a little isolated while on the ward.

Thank you for taking the time to post your opinion on the web site at what must be a busy time with your new baby. We are pleased to hear that you had a good experience whilst on the delivery suite, but are concerned that you felt isolated whilst on the ward itself.

On arrival to the ward we try and orientate all patients to where all the facilities are located. We demonstrate the buzzer system and we make sure you know what the visiting times are. You should be welcomed and feel able to approach any member of staff, for any reason, at any time and we are sorry that you didn’t feel this in your case. Midwives see the patients in the morning, the afternoon and during the evening. We also have a nursery nurse working on the ward 5 days a week and she should talk to all the patients. Finally there is a breast feeding and smoking cessation midwife who also talks to all the patients.

We also provide a service for ladies called the “After Thoughts Service”, this allows mums to talk through their experience and ask any questions which they may not have thought about at the time of their stay. You may feel it appropriate to use this service and we would certainly be happy to discuss the issue you raise in more detail with you, please telephone 01709 307 123. Although the service is linked directly to an answerphone, the staff regularly check the messages and ring people back as soon as possible and arrange a convenient time for them to come in and talk through their experience with the staff.

Thank you again for taking the time to post this opinion.
