"A good outcome thanks for your help St Marys..."

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

What I liked

I am in the unfortunate position of being that i will need the services of the hospital services possibly more than some so i appriciated the doctor in A&E with his courteous manner and freindly face i have met him twice in Oct & Nov of 2012 and the team in A&E were superb i even had an ocassion of needing A&E where they squeezed me in the plaster room being the only bed available Thankyou i needed that bed at that time.

The care i received in step down from 99.9% of the staff was outstanding and even more for the selected fewTHANK YOU ! The staff in step down

on my second visit as in longterm patient i had to go to CCU and they were again superb and my carer cared for me with total dignity and i found her very calming in my time of need "excellent"

The stroke neuro unit is a place where i found myself and was greated with the proffessionalism that you can only expect and was made to feel that i would have all the care i needed and that i did thankyou to you all. so St Marys you wont please all the people all the time but carry on the good work.

on a final note i would like to thank the anethetist whom attended me when i was very ill and put my mind at rest im pleased we had a meeting latter on my second visit your a gem and i cant thank you enough shame i coud not speak at the time but the pen said it for me and if we meet socially i would love to speak to you now..

the cleaniing team have a great member working as a floating member whom i met and experienced her dedication on stroke neuro ward, keep up the good work i still havent seen anyone as thourough as you are and sorting the high risk area's that occured whilst i was there you were great.

What could be improved

This saddens me to have to write in this box.......

I unfortunatley witnessed a couple of bad apples which is always in a box as big as St Marys

i was surprised to see some practices carried out...

i witnessed on occasion a patient could not control his bowls and it travelled the floor and the nurse on just used some paper towel to clean up this contaminated the floor where anyone walked and some patients were without slippers or any foot protection when i pointed out that it was still visible and would they get the cleaning team in they just used a wipe to go over i saw the cleaning team later and with my report they actually treated it as a contaminated area and thoroughly cleaned the whole area discreetly to save any embaressement.

St Marys need to look at the meal time there are some sorry and sad issues that is happening within some departments that i visited over the 12 weeks there that the older and vunerable are unlikely to voice.

Anything else?

Well if like me you only fill in these when i can praise and report then you know it is a difficult thing to do if you do it sincerly so my words above on both comment tables are true and unbios but happy and sadness played the part of filling them in.

Thank you for your words of praise for the staff and departments that you attended; but also for advising us of the negative issues which you unfortunately witnessed.

Please be assured that your comments both positive and negative will be shared with staff to ensure lessons are learnt, and the time taken to provide us with your feedback is extremely valuable as it allows us to improve services in the future.
