"Total waste of time and effort on my part, am very..."

About: Royal Eye Infirmary

What I liked

The coffee from the little counter downstairs

What could be improved

Staff with the patients interests at heart,

Train the nurses to have a bit more of a genuine friendlier attitude,

Train nurses to stop having a strop or closing ranks just because someone does not agree with them, it’s quite pathetic for an adult,

Maybe even remind them that the consultants are (supposed) to be the ones who are supposed to be making the decisions on peoples medical situations?

Train staff not to lie about carrying out blood pressure tests that they have not done?, it makes people wander about what else they might be lying about, maybe even putting peoples health at risk?

Stop staff lying to patients saying they was busy, when in reality they are in another room chatting about non related work stuff, then maybe the waiting times might be reduced?, I witnessed this myself yesterday morning when an elderly person was waiting?, the attitude is disgusting.

Anything else?

So far at this hospital, its proved to be about the worst medical place I have ever visited, was not going to go back , but spent the last few years fighting to get my eye operation sorted, last visit saw some female (consultant) who proceeded to tell me basically that she had a friend who had the same operation ( lens replacement) and who was supposed to have gone nearly mad afterwards? then advised me not to have the surgery, plus the eye exercises that I was recommended to do by various surgeons over the last couple of years, this person told me that there was no point in doing them, explained this to surgeon today as was supposed to be having my surgery, he seemed not interested in this info?, I went through all the paperwork saw everyone you need to see on the day of surgery, got changed ready, had to take tablets , then had to wait, and then was told that surgery would not be carried out as no one present with me?, I won’t put what I really think about the staff there as won’t be shown, there was one junior consultant who was excellent though, he tried everything in his power to try and arrange my surgery as he understood what it means to me, and I really think his talents and efforts are going to be in vain at that hospital, I just hope that when they move to Derriford after xmas, these staff don’t damage the reputation to much there, as I think Derriford is well run , respectful and very clean,

Apsley Road, they even empty their tea cups out the windows,(staff) so gives a good indication of the can’t be bothered attitude?.

I know no one official takes much notice of these comments, but I hope it helps stop someone else who reads this going through a similar situation, this has defo altered my opinion towards nurses, don’t think I would want to support any of their causes anymore, just too arrogant and get away with too much nowadays, the managers stink at their jobs.

I am very sorry that you had such a disappointing experience on your recent visit to the Royal Eye Infirmary. Clearly, you have a number of concerns which we would welcome the opportunity to investigate. If you would like to speak to a member of the Patient Advice and Liaison team, PALS can be contacted at the following address: plh-tr.PALS@nhs.net. Please can I reassure you that all feedback to Patient Opinion is shared with senior staff at the Trust.

Kind regards

Mary
