What could be improved
I was referred to the Royal Free by my Gp for a sleep study, my 1st appointment was for 3rd October, I cancelled that because I had a cold. My 2nd admittance was for 12th November....I phoned from the car parl outside just to confirm they had a bed for me, there was one, however after my outpatient appointment with the Lung function team, I was told there wasn't a bed for me. It was then arranged for last night the 13th..... I was collected from home at 6.15 pm, arrived on ward at 7pm....no-one knew why I was there...or had any medical notes for me....I had to fill in my own admission form, and wait for a bed to be made up. A respiratory doctor was called to see me and ask why I had been admitted? She told me the sleep study would be done tonight the 15th. I was woken at 7am by someone asking if I needed painkillers I said no thank you as I was not in pain....she gave them to me to help me relax....I am there because my diaphragm is weak as I have muscular dystrophy, therefore my muscles are very weak. I was told at 10.45 am that I had to leave the ward as they needed the bed...get dressed and head to the discharge lounge asap! Why I was sent to a cardiology ward is beyond me, I needed to be on respiratory not cardiology!
Anything else?
The outpatient team at Lung function were wonderful and fought hard to get me a bed....my consultant was very good ,she knew what she was talking about(excellent)! I seriously need a sleep study as I stop breathing whilst sleeping, and now I shall be waiting another 6 months before I get another appointment at another hospital. I am very angry and I have told my partner that if I should pass away while waiting for a new sleep study he shall be seeking legal advice against the Royal free hospital....I thought it was one of the best teaching hospitals in London, I now have free spoken englishmy doubts............while it is known as free perhaps you should give some free communication lessons to your staff. I am also considering highlighting this matter to the media....my NHS is not so great these days....atrocious I'd say!
"If the Free means the B+B I had, in what part of..."
